Critically-acclaimed production Far, Far From Ypres to visit ten venues across Scotland as part of Scotland’s national WWI commemorative programme
Iconic songs and poems from the war will are brought to life by 26 performers including beloved Scots star Barbara Dickson
Far, Far From Ypres invites the audience to share in the hope, endurance, suffering, humour and fear associated with the war as they join fictional prototypical soldier Jimmy MacDonald on his journey through the trenches.
The poignant show sees Scotland’s top folk talent bring to life dozens of songs, poems and real local stories, seamlessly woven together with narration by broadcaster Iain Anderson and complemented with a range of projected photos and illustrations.
Delivered by WW100 Scotland in partnership with veterans charities Legion Scotland and Poppyscotland, the Far, Far From Ypres tour forms part of the county’s Armistice centenary programme and will see the production visit ten cities and towns throughout Scotland, all of which were closely associated with Scottish regiments and therefore at the heart of recruitment during the war. At each performance, stories from the area will be incorporated into the show and theatre programme. The tour will come to a close with a performance at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Armistice Day.
Based on a Greentrax double album of WW1 songs, Far, Far From Ypres has drawn sell-out crowds and inspired standing ovations at Celtic Connections and beyond. This is a rare opportunity to experience a profound, emotionally-charged, wholly unique production as Scotland’s commemorative programme, remembering the millions of lives that were touched by the war a century ago, comes towards its close.
